The Dark Knight Rises does the Joker turn up??

Details have been scarce on the ground regarding The Dark Knight Rises to date, but the last week has seen lots of detail released. The most interesting info turned up at Empires set visit when they met Christopher Nolan. He talked at length about the movie but the most interesting element came on his decision on The Joker.

“We’re not addressing The Joker at all. That is something I felt very strongly about in terms of my relationship with Heath and the experience I went through with him on The Dark Knight“.

He added that “I didn’t want to in any way try and account for a real-life tragedy. That seemed inappropriate to me. We just have a new set of characters and a continuation of Bruce Wayne’s story. Not involving The Joker”.

It was heavily speculated that stock footage of Ledgers Joker would be used to link the two movies but that has been put to bed now with this statement. Nolan also, incidentally, reaffirms once more that The Dark Knight Rises is where he and Batman part ways. In a way as much as I loved Ledgers performance it seems fitting that The Dark Knight is where it ends.

The full interview is in the new issue of Empire magazine.

  1. Probably for the best in terms of respect but i would have loved some form of reference to the joker as for me that would have been just as respectful. Without mention of him it can come across as a bigger tragedy and one that will be forgotten in the final film.

    • I actually agree with you. Joker pushed batman to the limit and made him question what he was capable of. To not have any reference to me seems wrong somehow.

I don’t need to see any stock footage or have another actor play him to feel connected. I would have been happy with a line of dialogue at least to reference what brought Bruce to forget Batman

      • Certainly. Without any form of reference its gonna seem like a big gaping hole. Even raj al ghul is getting his turn in TDKR, hopefully we’ll get something. Can’t wait!
